Omega-3 belongs to the essential fatty acids. This means that the body cannot produce them itself. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids, and the most well-known are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). ALA is a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. EPA and DHA are primarily known as fish fatty acids. Omega-3 has anti-inflammatory properties, contributes to the development of the brain and nervous system, promotes the immune system, skin and coat condition, and hormone balance. Finally, omega-3 helps reduce stress.
